Family Safaris in Kenya

Family safari at Samburu Intrepids Safaris are not always geared up for children, and in fact some lodges set a minimum age of . However there are many ways you can have an extra special trip with children of any age.

1. Book a tailor made Kenya safari with an exclusive safari vehicle. This is a simple way to enjoy a family safari - there is no-one else to worry about, and the extra cost is relatively small compared to the total cost of the holiday for the stress free holiday it allows.

2. Stay at Intrepids Camps. These are luxury safari camps that are especially welcoming towards children. For children aged 4 to 11, the Adventures Club includes activities such as tree planting and building a Masai homestead and village.

For children aged 12 to 17 the Young Rangers Club offers special game drives, bush walks and cultural experiences. There is a special flying safari which includes flights between each of the three game parks. This is especially great for children as it stops them getting bored on long road journeys.

The itinerary is:

1 night in Nairobi at Nairobi Serena Hotel
2 nights in the Samburu at Samburu Intrepids
2 nights at Lake Naivasha at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort
2 nights at the Masai Mara at Mara Intrepids

The safari itself includes:

7 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 6 dinners plus meals on flights
International flights
Domestic light aircraft flights to all the game parks and back again to Nairobi
All transfers
3 Afternoon game drives and 4 morning game drives
Boat trip on Lake Naivasha

Prices start from Ł2575 per person in the low season of May and early June, rising up to just under Ł4000 per person in the peak summer holidays. Prices slightly higher at Christmas and New Year.

3. Join other families on a short safari holiday

I work with an adventure company who run family trips for children of 5 and upwards, on various dates throughout the year. It is a 5 night safari costing from Ł1699 per person up to Ł2699 per person, including 3 nights in the Masai Mara and 2 nights at Lake Naivasha.
